In early July 2024, a pickup truck with a Gen 4 camera was spotted driving in Leirvík within the island of Eystur. This is the first time Google has updated the existing coverage of the Faroe Islands, the last images were taken in 2016.

The coverage of Faroe is interesting unlike other places in Europe, where everything is marked as trekker. In July 2024, the official Visit Faroe Islands account via Facebook stated about Google's efforts to bring part of its services to the Islands such as the introduction of Faroese to Google Translate as well as the contributions of the Island's tourist organizations to bring street view to the territory.

The new updates are expected to help improve the navigation system of the islands on Google Maps.
