News - Almaty on the radar of Google and Yandex panoramic services

Kazakhstan is one of the major economic centers of Central Asia, especially Almaty, being the tourist destination due to its beautiful mountains. For this reason, different technology companies have started to promote several of their projects in the city, especially Google and Yandex.
Yandex launched street view for Kazakhstan in 2011 and recently in 2024, they have started to cover some areas in the country. Several users on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook noticed that in March this year they were updating part of the street view in some areas of Almaty.
Additionally, Google has also been taking the lead with its street view service in the country, which has images going from 2022 to 2023. Recently several users on Tiktok found a car driving around the north of the city in an area that previously had no coverage.
The services present certain differences in the country, where some areas have been covered and others have not, an example is Yandex which has coverage in certain centers of Uzynagash (Kazakh: Узынағаш), Talgar (Kazakh: Талғар) and Ushkonyr (Kazakh: Үшқоңыр) in the Almaty Region as well as Aksukent (Kazakh: Ақсукент) and Karabulak (Kazakh: Қарабұлақ) in the Turkistan Region.
These areas have not yet been covered by Google, but instead the American company's service had a much more extensive coverage in the Akmola Region including areas in Ereymentau (Kazakh: Ерейментау) and Atbasar (Kazakh: Атбасар) that have not yet been covered by Yandex, thanks to the help of Astana-based KazAeroSpace, KazAeroSpace.
We hope that both Yandex and Google teams will help digitize part of Kazakhstan as well as bring new street view to previously uncovered areas.
