A surprise for this weekend really, recently a tiktokter uploaded that a pickup car with a gen 4 camera was driving down a street in San Jose, capital of the Central American country of Costa Rica.

Based on the video, it can be seen that the setup is similar to the one used previously in Panama and soon in Ecuador. This would make Costa Rica the third Central American country to receive normal street coverage. In 2018, Google announced trekkers view for several tourist sites in the country but this is the first time they decided to go around the country using a car and not only that, using high quality gen 4 cameras.

Unfortunately we have no clues as to who would be the company providing the service as it has not yet been announced by Google or the Costa Rican authorities, but based on the stickers on the car, it can be seen that the company providing the vehicles is Enterprise rent-a-car that operates in several Central American countries.

The car was spotted on Avenida 20 in the Hatillo District located in the southwest of San José. Additionally, the car did not have a license plate, possibly due to the fact that the Street View project in the country has only recently started. At the end of May 2024, it was confirmed that Google Street View cars were photographing part of the city of Heredia.
