History

The museum was established in 2011 and later in 2013, the museum building was registered as a cultural property by the municipality of Yopal.[1] In 2018, the museum organized an exhibition about handicrafts and gastronomic samples made by women from the city of Yopal.[2]

In August 2023, several museums in the city of Yopal organized an exhibition about the flora and fauna of the Serrania de Chiribiquete, a natural reserve in the Departments of Caquetá and Guaviare inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, with the cooperation of the National Museum of Colombia.[3]

Collections

The museum's main exhibits are photography exhibits that showcase the history of Yopal.[4] In May 2021, the museum organized an art exhibition including works by artists from Villavicencio, Tunja, Manizales and Bogota, among the exhibits included furniture created based on wood carving in the Eastern Plains (Spanish: Llanos Orientales), as well as photographs of the development of the telegraph in the Department as far as the Municipality of Aguazul and tiles (Spanish: Azulejos) used in cemeteries in the area.[5]
