Report - New Islands in Indonesia, Brazil and Australia (August 2024)
Well, this month of August has been interesting in terms of updates, Google has recently added new islands around Asia, South America and Oceania, specifically in Indonesia, Brazil and Australia. The coverage dates from March to May of this year.
Rupat Island
In the province of Riau in Sumatra, Google Indonesia has recently added Rupat Island (Indonesian: Pulau Rupat) in the Strait of Malacca. New sights were added around the villages of Batu Panjang in addition to several beaches in the north of the island.
In addition, Street View vehicles have driven over several bridges on the island including the one across the Morong River and the Kundur Bridge.
In addition, Google also photographed areas around several religious sites on the island including the Vihara Cahaya Hati Rupat and the Baiturahmah Mosque.
Additionally several panoramic views were added in Tanjung Lapin Park. The island was covered by Google Indonesia on May 20 of 2024, coverage mainly extends in the north-eastern part in the Island.
Pará
Corales Island
Colares was the largest island that Google has covered in this update for the State of Pará in the Brazilian Amazon. The company prioritized the urban center of the municipality and later added smaller roads and towns around the island. The island was covered in a single day, specifically on May 22, 2024.
Among the towns added are Ariri, Mocajatuba and Jenipaúba de Laura. In addition, several bridges connect the towns of Candeuba and Jacaremanha.
Mutucal Island
Another island that was also added in this update is Mutucal which received its images on March 8 of 2024, interestingly Google Brazil focused on adding more images in the port of Iririteua than in the municipal seat of the island. One thing to note in the imagery is that the island was covered during the rainy season.
Trambioca Island
On March 31, Google started to cover another island in Pará including some beaches to the north.
Flinders
Another important addition to this update is Flinders Island in the State of Tasmania, the images are dated April 22, 2024. Locations such as Lady Barron and Whitemark were covered in this update. In addition Pathways around the Logan Lagoon Conversation Area were photographed by Google Australia.
The street view vehicles also photographed Walkers Lookout at approximately 414 meters high. Other areas included in this update located to the north of the island are Palana Beach and the North East River Campground.
