Report - New areas in Kenya and South Africa (Mid 2024)
Between June and July, both Google South Africa and Kenya have published new extensions to existing coverage in several subdivisions, including new areas near Nature Reserves as well as mountainous areas.
Kenya
Bomet County
In Bomet County, new coverage taken in February 2024 was added in the mountainous areas of the county, including roads around the mountains of Siwot & Tiroto, and especially Koitab Silibwet, being the largest previously mentioned with a height of approximately 2231 meters.
In addition, dirt roads around the Mutarakwa and Ngocho Mountains were also covered in the Bomet Central Constituency
Migori County
Google Kenya added new images in the southern part of Migori County including areas near Maheta Hill & Tambwiga Additionally new images were added near the Hibwa and Nyangoto rivers.
Much of the coverage dates from February 2024, including areas around the Tebesi River. Coverage was also extended around Isebania, a border town with Tanzania, specifically roads around Taragwi with an altitude of approximately 1617 meters.
Kajiado County
This county received the first coverage near the Mount Suswa Conservatory, including dirt roads in the eastern part. This coverage dates back to March of this year. New roads were also added in rural areas west of the county seat including dirt roads around the Olkejuado River.
Narok County
In Narok County, one of the important additions in this update was the addition of trails around the Talek River in the Naboisho Conservancy.
In addition, new roads in several rural areas of the County have been published such as bridges across the Amala River that serve to limit the borders between Narok and Bomet.
In addition, views were added around Gelegele Hill, which has an altitude of 2180 meters and delimits the borders between Kisii, Bomet and Narok.
South Africa
KwaZulu-Natal Province
Within the province, Google South Africa added new views around Mountains of Mhlumlayo and Sipatshini. In addition, new roads were covered, such as the P192 crossing around the Blinkwater River.
Additionally, new views were added on route D119, specifically around Putterill Spruit. Other roads being covered in April of this year included parts around the Tugela River.
Limpopo Province
For this province, new roads were added around the Blouberg Nature Reserve. This includes new extensions within the D1200 route around Mount Tsolametse which has an elevation of 1194 meters.
Some of the coverage dates from March of this year, including new extensions on the D3695 road with views of Mount Tshituni which is approximately 1440 meters high.
