History of Google Street View / Vietnam
Google Street View cars have been reported driving in various parts of the country since 2017 thanks to posts by Vietnamese on social media, but Google has not given an official response as to why they have suddenly been driving in Vietnam.
In January 2017, the Tôi Yêu Google website, which is in charge of monitoring the company's attempts to expand in the country, published an article about how a black car equipped with gen 3 cameras was driving on one of the bridges in the city of Hanoi.[1]
In mid-2020, it was reported through social media, the publication of various partial coverage that Google made for certain Vietnamese localities among them included Mỹ Tho, the capital of Tiền Giang Province; in addition to Bắc Ninh City, located in the north of the country; Thái Nguyên, the second most populous city in Vietnam as well as another of the northern localities that were covered; Yên Bái, located specifically in the northwest of the country; Hải Phòng, one of the few port localities covered.[2]
In November 2019, a Google driver posted photos of a Google Street View car equipped with gen 4 cameras navigating part of the coast of Phú Quốc Island, specifically at the port of Bãi Vòng in the south of the island that connects it to Hà Tiên in Kiên Giang province.[3]
