History of Google Street View / Lesotho
In November 2012, the Google Street View project started in the country, covering part of the capital city of Maseru. Previously, the company enabled edits in Lesotho and other African countries after several Google Map Maker events in August of the same year.[1]
Google used two vehicles registered in South Africa to cover Lesotho as well as other countries in the region such as Botswana and Eswatini. The image collection process was completed in February 2013. The publication of all the imagery of the country was done in April 2013.[2]
Additionally, Google focused on photographing on scenic roads around lakes or mountains,[3] such as Katse Lake (Sesotho: Letša la Katse) located in Leribe District, which was photographed in November 2012, and some trails in Sehlabathebe National Park (Sesotho: Serapa sa Sechaba sa Sehlabathebe) covered in February 2013
Other scenic trails that Google photographed in Lesotho include roads near the Maletsunyane Falls (Sesotho: Liphororo tsa Maletsunyane) in the Maseru District during January 2013, additionally Google also photographed part of the entrance to AfriSki Resort located in the Maloti Mountains (Sesotho: Lithaba tsa Maloti) within the Butha-Buthe District, this coverage was taken at the end of 2012.[4]
