History of Google Street View / Kyrgyzstan
From October to December 2015, Google drove around several of the cities in Kyrgyzstan with a trekker, discussions to bring street view to the country began in 2014 with representatives of the Kyrgyz government's Ministry of Tourism, and were part of several projects including the addition of the Kyrgyz language to Google Translate.[1]
Google Street View was officially announced at the Issyk-kul International Tourism Fair in May 2016, where the former Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan, Gulmira Kudaiberdieva (Kyrgyz: Гульмира Кудайбердиева), participated, where it was explained that the project was carried out thanks to the initiative of the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Kyrgyz Republic to promote tourism and trade in the country.[2]
The event was also attended by Marina Tarasova (Ukrainian: Марина Тарасова), Google's public relations representative for Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, where she explained that about 20 historical sites have been photographed such as Burana Tower (Kyrgyz: Бурана мунарасы), Chon Ak-Suu Gorge (Kyrgyz: Чоң-Ак-Суу капчыгайы) and Cholpon-Ata Petroglyphs (Kyrgyz: Чолпон-Ата петроглифтер).[3]
Additionally, several of the Google Trekkers were used to photograph UNESCO sites in Kyrgyzstan such as the Sulamain Too Mountain Complex in the city of Osh, which includes a museum and mausoleum.[4] In addition, part of the exhibits of the National Historical Museum Of The Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyz: Кыргыз Республикасынын улуттук тарых музейи) in Birinchi May District, Bishkek were digitized.
