History of Google Street View / Kazakhstan
Google Street View was officially announced for Kazakhstan on March 25, 2024, the country has images dating from early 2022 to late 2023 focusing primarily on regional capitals.
In late March, Songran Jang, Google Maps program manager for Asia released an official statement about the addition of coverage for Kazakhstan, the second Central Asian country to be added to the service, explaining about the completion of the project in the country that concluded with the release of coverage in tourist areas such as the areas around the Caspian Sea to the snowy mountainous areas around Almaty, in addition to focusing on cultural areas with unique Kazakh architecture such as Temirtau and Aktobe.[1]
On March 27, the Kazakh government launched its official press release about the introduction of Google Street View to the country with company representatives such as Olga Skorokhodova (Kazakh: Ольга Скороходова), Google's head of public relations and policy for Central Asia as well as representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, such as Bagdat Musin (Kazakh: Бағдат Мусин), emphasizing that Google Street View can increase tourism in the country.[2]
Google collaborated with the Asian company KazAeroSpace for the selection of cars equipped with Gen 4 Trekkers and the employment of different drivers, according to statistics provided by KazAeroSpace, about 125,000 km were traveled in the country in order to provide images for different areas, regions and cities.[3]
In August 2023, KazAeroSpace publicly announced that it was the regional commissioner to assist with the mapping of Kazakhstan, the Asian aerospace company showed photos of the car setup at Nazarbayev University (Kazakh: Назарбаев Университетi) located south of Astana.[4]
Coverage Expansion
In early March 2023, the Google Maps team in Kazakhstan navigated several remote areas of the southern region of the country such as roads passing around Altyn Emel National Park (Kazakh: Алтынемел мемлекеттік ұлттық табиғи паркі) in the Jetisu Region.
In mid-July 2023, Google Street View vehicles covered several desert areas within the Mangystau Region including roads around the Ustyurt National Preserve all the way to the Beket Ata Mosque (Kazakh: Бекет Ата мешітінің).
In early August 2023, Google Street View vehicles began navigating around the Burabay National Park (Kazakh: Бурабай мемлекеттік ұлттық табиғи паркі) located in the Akmola Region.
