In August 2015, Google Indonesia sent several Street View cars to photograph the city of Balikpapan in East Kalimantan Province, the first settlement on the island to be covered by this service. Subsequently, Samarinda, Banjarmasin and Palangkaraya were added to the city coverage in late 2015.

In early 2016, the capital city of West Kalimantan Province, Pontianak, received its first street view images, then in the middle of the same year, part of North Kalimantan Province received its first coverage specifically in Tanjung Selor and Tarakan Island.[1]

Google Indonesia sent several trekkers to photograph various parts of markets in the main cities of the island such as the Klandasar Market located on the coast of Balikpapan during July 2017, additionally the Sudirman Traditional Market in the center of Pontianak City during March 2019.

Additionally in August 2017, local news media noted that the Google Trekker was beginning to digitalize part of the Siring 0 Kilometer Park in the city of Banjarmasin, although the coverage was never published.[2]

In late 2018, Google Indonesia took the first steps to drive in the central part of the island, where it photographed several roads around the metropilatan area of Sintang in West Kalimantan.[3] In mid-2019, Google began introducing Gen 4 cameras to Kalimantan as several nearby islands were covered.

In Late 2023, several cars equipped with Gen 4 cameras began filming various parts of the city of Sanggau in West Kalimantan.[4]
