History of Google Street View / Dominican Republic
The Google Street View project in the Dominican Republic was led by photographer Tito Gonzalez, who since 2012 has been a trusted photographer for Google Maps, the project started to work in 2018, when two trekkers were sent to the island, to photograph part of the streets in Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros and Boca Chica.[1]
The Google Street View project in the Dominican Republic was supported by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT).[2]
GSV's project manager in the Dominican Republic was planning to launch street view in more cities, especially tourist areas, including Punta Cana in the province of Alta Gracia, located at the eastern end of the country; the coastal city of Romana in addition to Barahona, located in the southwestern part of the island.[3]
In March 2019, Google's team in the Dominican Republic confirmed that it was in various parts of Santiago de los Caballeros in the north of the country.[4]
Although for unknown reasons, these cities were not introduced to street view, both Google Latin America and the street view team in the Dominican Republic did not give an official statement, but it is speculated that it may be because the loan trekker program has a certain deadline at the time of using the cameras.
