History of Apple Look Around / Kerala
At the end of May 2024, Apple Maps vehicles entered the State of Kerala through the Karnataka border.[1] Subsequently the vehicles were spotted in the Idukki District (Malayalam: ഇടുക്കി ജില്ല).[2] In mid-June 2024, it was reported that a vehicle was photographing part of the area around the Chullimanoor Junction (Malayalam: ചുള്ളിമാനൂർ ജംഗ്ഷൻ) located in Thiruvananthapuram District that intersects both State Highway 2 and Highway 45.[3]
In early July 2024, these vehicles were sighted driving through several rural areas in Munnar (Malayalam: മുന്നാർ), a city located in the mountainous eastern part of Kerala characterized by its tea plantations.[4]
In early August 2024, the local newspaper Anchuthengu Vaarthakal published an article about how mapping equipment was touring the coastal area of Thiruvananthapuram District.[5] Later in the same month, several social media users spotted the Apple Maps car driving through several suburbs in the Kollam (Malayalam: കൊല്ലം) metropolitan area,[6] the fifth largest city in Kerala. Additionally, in this month, Apple vehicles also started to circulate in the commercial zones around the metropolitan area of Palakkad (Malayalam: പാലക്കാട്), the ninth most populous city in the state.[7]
In early September 2024, Apple Look Around vehicles were spotted around Kozhikode (Malayalam: കോഴിക്കോട്).[8]
